2026 Lotus Iron
Congratulations to all teams who participated in the 36th Lotus Iron Race! It was a fantastic event and a wonderful day out on the water together. The Ohana was strong in our paddling community this weekend. Teams traveled from all areas of the Lower Mainland as well as Vancouver Island, Penticton, Calgary, Kelowna, and Bellingham – how fantastic that you could be with us!
For teams who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in their category in each heat, a donation on your team’s behalf will be made to a local organization helping to end food insecurity in our community. Almost $1500 will be donated to charities this year; these gifts to others are indicative of the culture and values inherent in the sport of outrigger canoe racing and the Aloha spirit. Thank you, everyone!
Much appreciation goes to CORA; it would not be possible to put on such an event without your support. Kudos go out to Lotus volunteers who did an incredible job of organizing and coordinating this race. The Lotus Sports Club would also like to extend its deepest thanks to non-club members who contributed to the success of this race including the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue volunteers, Kim (Manager of SaveOn Foods Austin Station), St. John Ambulance first aid volunteers, the City of Burnaby, Barnet Marine Park staff, Deanna and William George of Tsleil-Waututh Nation for their blessing of the event, and the Mixed Bag Band for their wonderful music.
