Youth Program
The Lotus Sports Club has had a youth paddling program for over 30 years and it is recognized as one of the largest and most successful youth development programs in the Pacific Northwest. Paddlers of every level of skill and ability come together to acquire new skills, expand their knowledge of the water, experience the challenge of competition, as well as to have fun and make new friends.
The experienced and certified coaches for the youth program emphasize safety, good sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the marine environment. Youth from 14 years of age and older train and compete year round. The spring program (April to June) focuses on dragon boat paddling with teams competing in the Concorde Pacific International Dragon Boat Festival. The summer, fall and winter paddling program (July to March) focuses on paddling and racing in Hawaiian outrigger canoes. The youth program has many championships to its credit in both dragon boats and outriggers, including the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival. The outrigger teams have competed in the world’s largest outrigger canoe race, the Queen Liliuokalani Race, in Kona, Hawaii as well as many local and national competitions. Please see the practice schedule at right for current practice times.
