Small Boats Race draft

The Lotus Iron Small Boats Race is back!! It has been six years since Lotus put on this race…but the exciting news about reopening outdoor sports has motivated the club. The Lotus Sports Club invites all small boat paddlers to race through some of the most scenic spots in Indian Arm. If you’re feeling a little rusty after a year or more without a physical race, there will be fun short course option to start your comeback!

Race Date:
Sunday, July 4, 2021

Time:
10:00 am (with staggered starts to limit the number of paddlers on the start line)

Race Courses:
Short course – 5 km
Long course – 10 km

Recognition:
Race results will recognize 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in class designations according to the CORA Long Distance Race Rules.
In lieu of awards or draw prizes, Lotus will be donating the entire proceeds of this race to the B.C. Cancer Foundation in memory of Barbara Alley.

Race Safety Plan:
The Lotus Sports Club is committed to keeping the health and safety of paddlers as the top priority.
     – Self-assess for COVID-19 symptoms before arriving on site; those people who are unwell are required to stay home.
     - Online pre-registration and fee payment is mandatory; no on-site registration or cash
     - All boats taking part in the race must have at least one (1) personal flotation device approved by Transport Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard or the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans for each person in the boat
     - Competitors are required to wear a mask when not on the field of play (ie. on the water)
     - Paddlers and organizers must maintain physical distancing
     - Hand sanitizing stations will be available
     - No access to the Lotus building and part of the compound that has been blocked off
     - No food or water will be provided
     - Competitors are instructed to leave the area directly upon finishing
     - There will be 3 safety boats on the race course

Race Registration:
     - Race registration will be limited to 50 paddlers
     - All paddlers must pre-register. Boat unloading information, maps and other notifications will be emailed to pre-registered racers prior to race day.
     - All boats will require numbers; CORA numbers will be provided at the check-in desk for those boats without numbers.
