Introduction

The Lotus Sports Club has had a youth paddling program for over 20 years and it is recognized as one of the largest and most successful youth development programs in the Pacific Northwest. Paddlers of every level of skill and ability come together to acquire new skills, expand their knowledge of the water, experience the challenge of competition, as well as to have fun and make new friends.

There are five experienced coaches for the youth program who emphasize safety, good sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the marine environment. Youth ranging from 14 to 20 years of age train and compete year round. The spring program (March to June) focusses on dragon boat paddling with teams competing in several local and international competitions. The summer, fall and winter paddling program (July to March) focusses on paddling and racing in Hawaiian outrigger canoes. The youth program has many championships to its credit in both dragon boats and outriggers, including a first place finish in the 2011 Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival Junior Division C and first and second place finishes in the Junior Men's division of the 2011 Canadian Outrigger Championships.
